Naval Architects Bruce Farr & Associates teamed with designer Olivier Flahault and CIM of Rochefort, France to produce the Sailing Yacht Y Not, a Maxi 78 combining strong sailing performance with modern, art deco styling. When Construction Industrielles et Maritimes (CIM) of Rochefort, France produced this first Maxi 78 they caused quite a sensation. As experienced larger boat builders, their partnership with Farr and Flahault allowed them to craft a 24m (79’ 9”) boat with the look and feel of a true Super Yacht. A performance winged keel allows close in anchoring in the Islands’ many shallow harbors and bays. A fully-battened main and roller furled foresail is the perfect setup for enjoying the consistent breezes of the Caribbean. The separate sailing cockpit with helm and hydraulic winches provides guests an ultimate sailing experience without the imposition of too many crew. Bruce Farr & Associates designed an exterior profile featuring wide, open decks and a clean-lined hull capable of good off-wind speed. Sweeping topsides conclude at the iconic reverse transom, well known and admired throughout the Caribbean. The hydraulically operated transom door opens to dramatically reveal teak stairs to the swimming platform with hot & cold fresh water shower and LED Courtesy Lights. Boarding via the passerelle, wide teak coamings lead to dual stairways forward allowing easy access to the guest cockpit and companionway. A large cushioned sunbathing area immediately aft of the guest cockpit provides the perfect spot for relaxation while staying involved with friends in the conversation… Olivier Flahault coordinated exterior and interior, creating a well-balanced practical design. Macassar Ebony Parquet Soles, Pearwood Veneers and White Leather Deckheads enhance the true Super Yacht look and feel. Below, the saloon’s oval dining table continues the guest cockpit theme. Art deco leather chairs provide seating flexibility. Highly polished stainless steel port covers and chainplates shine in sunlight streaming through large coachroof windows. LED Spots illuminate the space at night. A 40” LED TV provides a reassuring mix of technology with traditional nautical design. The guest bar and wide open galley allows interested guests to participate in cocktail, hors d’oeuvres and meal preparation. The owner’s full-width cabin features queen size bed, dual closets and dresser drawers. Leather-fronted lockers offer additional storage. Two en suite bathrooms provide a full shower to port and toilet to starboard. A matching leather writing desk is one of many art deco yet practical features. The two en suite guest cabins convert from single queen to double twin beds with stainless steel port covers, closets, leather-fronted lockers and louvered air-conditioning vents identical to the owner’s cabin. All living spaces benefit from the 2011 installation of new air conditioning with customizable digital controls and more than twice as many designer outlets providing excess charging capacity for iPods, laptops and cell phones. Converting 90% of ship’s lighting to LEDs provides brighter yet softer illumination while reducing heat output and energy consumption. If you are looking for strong sailing performance with Super Yacht accommodations and luxuries without the expense and imposition of too many crew, perhaps this yacht is for you. Come sail with us and you can have it all. Once aboard, you’ll realize why your every request is met with, “Of Course, Y Not?”
