 | | | Captain: Angus Fuller | Nationality: British | | Number of Crew 3 | | Crew Profiles: Captain Brett Clark, Australian
Over the last six years Brett has been on the fast track, gaining experience and qualifications as a charter yacht skipper. He worked in sales and PR before turning his sights on the yachting industry, inspired perhaps by his time as a water sports instructor in the south of France. And, he may be the only charter captain who is a professional baker/pastry chef.
With his wife, Andrea, he has traveled extensively doing deliveries on modern and classic yachts around the UK, Ireland, Mallorca, Scandinavia, New Zealand and the Caribbean. He has more than three years experience as First Mate/ Engineer on sailing yachts up to 90 feet and aboard the 86 foot motor yacht Bel Mare.
Brett’s first position as charter captain was onboard Aria, a busy 90’ motor sailer with repeat long-term charters on which he originally served as First Mate. Brett and Andrea took command of the 65 foot catamaran True North in December 2007 and did ten weeks of charter in the next few months. By then, the owner of True North had fallen in love with and purchased MATAU.
Brett is STCW95 certified and holds an International Yachtmaster Offshore License in addition to an RYA Day Skipper license.
Chef Andrea Clark, Australian
Andrea grew up on and around her parents' boats in Australia's beautiful Whitsunday Islands. She worked in the hospitality industry for many years - good training for chartering – and takes pride in giving guests the very highest level of service at all times.
Andrea and Brett started working as a team on yachts in 2003 in Southampton, England, managing shore-based charter preparations for a 25 meter (82 foot) yawl. Andrea has always had aN appreciation of fine cuisine based on fresh regional foods and unique flavors.
Working side by side with top caliber yacht chefs, she has raised her cooking and presentation skills to a high professional level. Now confidently in charge of MATAU’s galley, she serves her guests the finest and freshest ingredients prepared with her own creative flair.
She is happy to fulfill individual requests and cater to special dietary requirements.
Andrea holds an RYA Dayskipper License and has completed the theory component of the RYA Yachtmaster License.
Stewardess Gina Clark, (Brett’s sister)
Gina was originally hired as a freelance stewardess for the summer of 2007 in Newport, Rhode Island. The yachting industry was totally new to her and she took to it like a duck to water. When the opportunity arose for Brett, Andrea and Gina to work together full time, they all jumped at the chance.
A year and many, many charters later, Gina thoroughly enjoys her work and working with Brett and Andrea. When you take a vacation on MATAU and have Gina looking after you, you will never want to go home.
First Mate Mathew Philips, Australian
Mathew started working ‘on the water’ in Australia’s beautiful Sydney Harbour 15 years ago and has been working on and around boats ever since. With solid experience and great references he ventured overseas in 2006 to pursue a career in the superyacht industry.
Mathew has recently obtained his RYA Yacht Master certification and is currently working towards becoming a Certified Dive Master.
Mathew takes pride in maintaining and presenting MATAU to the highest standard. His friendly face and fun loving nature are always a hit with guests. | |
