How would you describe your Captain and crew? Were they courteous? Attentive? Knowledgeable?
True North was a beautiful yacht, but the best thing about her was her Captain and crew. This was our first experience chartering a yacht, and I was a bit apprehensive about how we would all get on for a week in close quarters. Whitey, Max and Taylor were magic. They were all of the above and then some.
Tell me about your meals? Did the menus meet your group’s expectations?
The meals Max created were truly outstanding, not only in their flavors, but the presentation and table settings and ambience were wonderful. I was amazed at the quality and presentations created and served from such a small galley. Max was incredibly organized, which kept the flows of the meals on track.
How is the yacht? Is she clean and well maintained? Were your cabins comfortable?
True North was beautiful, clean and well maintained. Taylor and Max took care of the cabins and salon and kept everything neat and clean. The cabins were very comfortable, especially the master. I was thrilled that the a/c worked very well! There was plenty of water for all our showers, etc. Although we packed kimbels and books for the trip, True North had a great library. The bean bags in lounging pillows were perfect for being on the fore deck.
How did you find the pace and the itinerary of your vacation?Absolutely perfect! Our daughters had taken sailing camps with Action Quest in the BVI’s several times, and communicated to Whitey where they wanted to take us prior to the sail. Whitey accommodated all the requests and ran a tight ship without being “up-tight”! There was never a dull moment, but also, there were plenty of opportunities to just relax, sun and read.
Would you charter TRUE NORTH again? If not, please explain. If yes, what are the key reasons?
YES! # 1 reason, the crew! #2, the layout of True North was very comfortable and did afford privacy. #3 Gary and I were so comfortable in our master cabin. We have been quite spoiled over the years and have traveled around the world and have stayed in world class resorts and hotels (that’s another reason I was a bit apprehensive!) and when my friends asked me how was the boat, I replied that our room was a smaller version of a Four Seasons! #4 She is well equipped for water sports, especially the scuba. We wanted a boat that had scuba and a great dive master (Whitey! & Max!). Lots of other reasons, but those are the top four.
Additional comments:
We can’t say enough about the crew. Their sensitivity to our needs (and wants!) was excellent! Their wealth of knowledge of all aspects of True North and the BVI’s and diving truly made me, the Mom, feel that my family and my daughters’ friends were in an extremely safe environment, without being overwhelmed with too many details. It was such a great environment to be adventurous and have a “go for it” time! Please keep us posted on the plans for Belize. We plan to put that on our calendars!

It was the most fabulous trip!!! The crew is amazing, and I wish I was there right now. There was nothing left undone or unattended to....we loved every minute!

The trip on True North was amazing! We had a really fabulous trip which I would love to talk to you about when you have time. Everything went so well!
Christmas charter 2009
To give you an idea of how much everyone liked the trip, read the following excerpt of an email I received from one of my nephews:
“Well, I have no idea how to even write the appropriate thank you note for the trip. The French would call something like this trip ‘halucinant’, which loosely translated is something so good you think it’s a hallucination. And everyone is on the same page regarding that. To quote George, whom I spoke with yesterday about a return trip: ‘I would definitely pitch in money to go again next year, hell, next week’.
Having two boats turned out great. Most of the younger crowd was on XXX and the older folk on True North. We sailed every day which gave us plenty of opportunity to have some friendly competition between the two crews. True North was usually faster in the typically 15 knot winds – although I suspect this may have been partly due to Robert’s outstanding sailing skills.
For thanksgiving dinner, we moored the two boats together which made going between the vessels extremely easy – even for my (80 year old) mother. It worked so well that we moored the boats together every evening for the rest of the trip. And somehow, both chefs managed to coordinate so that all the food was served at the same time!
So everyone had a tremendous time and I think the feeling was unanimous that this was our best Thanksgiving ever! My Mom enjoyed it a lot and was delighted to see everyone having a good time.
